Oil pressure problem on my French made MF-35 Perkins diesel it has 45lb at cold start up and only has about 10lb at 2000 rpm when warm. Will the problem be the oil pump or bearings or both?
The engine does not nock under load and has good power. Will it hurt to keep running the tractor? Can someone tell me the year the tractor was made the SN# is L. SNMYS 53053
THANKS! DANNY

Downunder you can get Shell Helix Super for older engines and I was desparate for a fix on a Daihatsu Diesel motor I have in my 4X4. Motor was blown and rebuilt at 200,000 kms using the original head. Oil pressure was low and apart from a complete rebuild appeared doomed. I switched to this oil and it has kept the motor alive for the last 12 years and the vehicle has 550,000 kms on the clock. The Daihatsu motor is very similar to the direct injection Perkins and should this oil be available is worth a try. I do not know about the availability overseas as Shell Helix was originally developed in Australia and the Australian market is used to test market some products.

My MF35 id tag says "Made in Detroit Michigan". My oil pressure on the 3-152 Perkins is all over the place too. I originally went to TSC 40 wt but when I found out it wasn't certified for diesel service, I went to Shell Rotella T 30w which holds up pretty well, but hot at idle it is still at the low end of the yellow. Don't like that.

Tractor runs and starts fine and doesn't use oil so I don't think engine work is in order.

My 350 cid Chevrolet V8 (30,000 miles) has oil pressure like that too. It's all over the place even with heavy duty 15w-40 Rotella T. Heard that high volume oil pumps do that. Noticed other Chevy's and they do it too.

Now some food for thought. Idiot lights work around 10 to 15 psig of pressure. With an idiot light, we are comfortable when running and it's out. What we don't know is that the oil pressure could be sitting at 11 psig and we don't know it and don't worry about it.

So after realizing that, I am less worried about my oil pressure dropping when hot at idle. But I still use the heavier oil.

Mark

first off, what kind of oil are you using, I went from 10W-30 to straight 30 weight and my oil pressure settled down a lot

I"m not sure where exactly the tap is but you have one somewheres on the engine to plumb in a decent quality oil pressure gauge to double check the pressure

10 lbs (if thats what its really dropping to) seems kinda low for heavy work but light duty kinda stuff like bush hoggin should be OK

Hi Will the ID plate has Paris France on and it is a Perkins Diesel 3 cylinder I think that makes it a 35? The full SN# is 428lsnmys 53053 , what do you think about the oil pressure?

Thanks!

Hi,

The 20/120, 130, 140, and 145 were built in France. The 35/135 was built in North America and the UK!!

Could it be a MF 25?

Thanks

Will
