My Father owns the above tractor and has for several years. Its been a terrific tractor but has one downside....it does not have power steering. He is in his late 60s now and he complains about the steering.

I am interested in finding out if I can convert the tractor to power steering for him. On my 1030 Massey, the power steering is simply a cylinder on the left side with the lines running into the main hydraulics. Is there something like this available that I can put on his tractor?

The 135 is a diesel with left side steering. I have the ablility to fabricate and weld if anyone knows of a system that could be put on this tractor. I would also like to know how much it costs.

Thanks,

Greg Wilcox

Greg, There is a conversion kit make by a company in Turkey www.powersteeringkit.com. It cost between $700 and $800 US. I looked into one for my MF50 but the kit would not fit. I have no idea how well they work. The other option would be to get a system off an old tractor. For my MF50 this would run around $600. Look around in the salvage yards.

Good Luck.

I agree with Thomas and Ben. I have a 59 FE35, and unless I am making a real sharp turn, one hand is enough.

Before going to that expense, change the king pin thrust bearings and make sure the front tyres are blown up well. This makes the difference between being able to steer and not. Personally I don't think you need power steering on 3 cylinder MF's - except perhaps with a loader. If the king pin bearings are worn the steering will be very heavy, and any power assistance you add will just accelerate wear on the rest of the system.

Hi

Im in the Uk, so this may be irrelavant, but i have seen power steering kits for them new (not from massey) for 200. I dont know how they work, or if they do work, as i didnt buy one, - im still ok with the lack of power steering on my 135.
