I have a Massey Pony that has me baffled. The tractor idles great, but as soon as I increase the throttle position just a bit the engine goes to full throttle. The only want to decrease the speed is to shut the engine off. I recently had the carburetor rebuilt buy a reputable shop and thought that I may have incorrectly reconnected it to the engine but the control rods only seem to fit in one position. Any, Ideas? Thanks

Its got to be something in the gov. Try working the the gov arm by hand with out any of the linkage attached. Pull back on that arm and push it forward. If the engine is still running fast you'll need to get in there and see what sticking, broke, etc. Good luck!
It maybe wise to have someone at the switch to turn it off while you are doing this test just in case it would start run too fast. Don't want it to blow up.

I"m no expert, but I would think the governor has to be the culprit. The way the linkage is set up, the throttle/speed lever goes to the governor linkage, and the governor actually opens up the carb. Check how everything is moving and maybe you"ll get lucky and see exactly what"s happening. It seems to me that the governor is going wide open to the carb.I"m not sure if this could be from the governor balls being stuck.
