IF there was not such a discrepancy between the M-H Pony serial numbers I
found here at YT, and the list at>Link
would not bother you with this question.

The YT M-H Pony serial number list has;
1951 1st # = 10536
1952 1st # = 13273
1953 1st # = 15910

The list at Link has;
1951 1st # = 13591
1952 1st # = 17994
1953 1st # = 22007

Also, the YT list has numbers for 1955 and 1956. Yet I read several places
that the production ended in 1954, except for a run of 122 units in 1957.

PLEASE straighten this out for me.

Thanks,
Larry

The Pony serial # PGA 2532 was built in 1948. I'll see if I can break down the serial # system of the ponies for you. Ponies were built in Canada from 1947 to 1954, the numbering system goes like this:
1947 PGS 1001 - 1320 PGA 1001 - 1002
1948 PGS 1321 - 4162 PGA 1003 - 3514 PGA 1001A - 1570A
1949 PGA 1571A - 10816A
1950 PGA 10817A - 13725A PGS 4163 - 4328
1951 PGA 13726 - 18224
1952 PGA 18225 - 22006
1953 PGA 22007 - 22668
1954 PGA 22669 - 23853
(PGS = Standard Axle PGA = Adjustable Axle)
The Pacer carried on after this until 1956 and in 1957 in order to use up old stock Massey reproduced the pony from serial # 24049 - 24319 and these tractors were built in the US. Serial numbers 23854 - 24048 were not used. and the serial # followed by an A was a high altitude model. Hope this clears it up for you.

Many thanks, Mike.
Now can you get Kim to fix the SN list here on YT??

Very interesting that M-H used the same numbers on three variations, PGS, PGA and PGA#A. I could see that would lead to confusion by the uninformed like me. :-)

Your numbers indicate that something like 271 Ponys were made in the USA in 1957. But I have a calender showing a Pony picture and describes the characteristics of it along with the dates made. It says that there were 122 made in 1957. I assume from your list that that is wrong (?!?).

Courious, where did you get your list? I assume that it is not on the web anywhere.

Regards,
Larry

The information on serial #'s I have comes from a bookcalled The Massey Legacy, by John Farnwoth. It is an invaluable asset to any Massey collector, it is full of pictures and information from horse drawn implements to brand new tractors. A lot of the information in it is directly from the Massey archives, which are located at the Ontario Agricultural Museum Right here in Milton Ontario,so I assume the information is correct. Great set of books, a lot of help.
