bought an old MH. narrow front, no ID plate. Markings on the engine are: top right side, M1A260D with the number 37738 under the M1A number.

on the bottom of the block is H260A.

Previous owner says #1 piston was stuck. It it a 4 cyl with valves in the head. Was burning oil. He recommended a sleeve kit. Found one in Chicago for 925 bucks. It that reasonable? should I just try rings if I can get them. What is acceptable wear on the sleeves?

I need help finding a source for a repair/parts manual and source for parts. Would be helpful to know the year.

Need at least one front rim, maybe two. Also need radiator cowling and any other advice welcome.

Steve

If you want to know the serial number of your tractor, it is also stamped into the transmission housing in the space right behind the PTO/belt pulley shift lever, and in front of the rearend cover.

Steve: For starters, You've got a 44. Heavy on the doubt factor here, but I think it is a 1950 model and may be a high altitude edition. Where are you located? If you are 3500 feet or over, it might be. Check out the valve guides before you do sleeves, they won't help the oil situation. There were a lot of these things built and there are parts around but your friendly Massey dealer's prices will likely make you blow lunch. Look for salvage yards or an auction for a parts tractor or two. Best of Luck. Tom

Steve: I blew it. The info I gave on last post is wrong. I found my glasses and the number I thought was the serial has too many numbers. Read it the way the other guys suggested and post that number here and I'll find it. Sorry. Tom
