Hi,

We are converting our MF 35 from 23c to Perkins, and I would like to know if all thurst bearing have an oil groove in them. We have not split our tractor yet. ( Jack NB..... ..... ....Block is at machine shop getting semi finished sleeves put in and finished!! Thanks again!! ) But need to know if tey are all the same.

I spoke to someone on the net who restored a 35, and after he rebuilt the motor, it locked up becuase the MF dealer gave him a thrust bearing with NO oil groove in it. I have not checked with our dealer on one, but apparently this is either a screw up, or MF shipped the wrong one?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Will

Hi Wil -

Glad to hear things are progressing.

The thrust bearings I've seen have a steel back (usually with the part number stamped in) and babbit (or other softer) metal on the front. There may or may not be slight depressions on the soft side.

The soft side goes toward the crank flange; the steel side goes against the block.

Reversing one will destroy the crank flange. (Don't ask how I know!!!!!)

Jack
