Hello My son was given a tractor and we do not know what it is there is no serial number we can see on the frame but there are some numbers we could find they are:
#6372a-throttle control
#6333a-gear shift cover
#7464a-rear end
#6377a-belt drive asembly for accessories right side of tractor
#9155a-transmission
W262999 Ross patented-on steering box I know this is a lot of numbers and probably incorrect part names but my son and I are really excited to find out what model of Massey Harris this is so we can purchase a manual to start our first restoration
We were told it is a 1947 ???
please help
Jason and Dallas

If the ross steering box is on the right side just ahead of the brake pedals you probably have a MH 55, the 9155a also rings a bell.
Good Luck

I don't think it would be a 55 with a channel iron frame.

Give us some descriptions of the tractor. Flathead or overhead valve engine? Four or Six cylinders? Cast iron front chassis tub or channel iron? Hinged sidepanels beside the engine or a one-piece hood over and beside the engine? Gas tank itself showing or is it covered by a tin cover? Describe the grille, does it have tin flatbars or tin louvres? All these will help to make an ID. The serial number is hand stamped into the upper machined surface of the transmission/differential housing (between the cast shifting platform at the front and the steel cover plate at the back). It's there on the left side of the machined surface near where the clutch pedal is when "out" (disengaged). Post the serial number here for positive ID. You'll have to do some scraping and wire brushing to find it but it'll be there.

Alberta Mike Thank you for your help the motor is a four cylinder channel iron frame with hinged side panels but the side panels are missing.
We will look for the serial number you described and then we will post it when we find it once again thank you we appreciate your help
Thanks Jason and Dallas

That narrows it down somewhat. You've got a 81,82,20, or 22 Massey Harris. That engine is a little Continental-made unit, same one that was on most Lincoln welders for ever even into the 70's or maybe even later. Check in the tractor photo archives and take a look. Those 4 tractors were pretty much the same thing, some engine changes as well as slightly different sheet metal.

Also look underneath the frame about where the fuel tank cap is located. Some models have a frame casting date embossed on the casting.
