My MF 90 internal hydraulic pump seems to work when it is first started but after running for awhile it seems to not have any pressure. I have cleaned the filter and it has plenty of fluid. Does anyone have any ideas?

Don

Which pump are you referring to? The three point pump or the steering/multipower pump.

Actually the power steering seems to work fine and also the three-point seems to work other than when you shut the tractor off the three point goes all of the way down after a short period. My main problem is when I hook up another implement to the hydraulic control it raises the implement when it is first started but after a short period it stops working. Do you have any ideas? Thanks

I had a similar problem on a 90 with the PS pump. It turned out that there was enough particles in the trans sump to plug the pump inlet screen after the oil had been circulating for a few minutes. When the engine was shut off, the particles would fall out of the screen (at least the bottom half)so that it would work for another few minutes. The solution was to drain all three sumps, wash out all of the particles (some were magnetic, most were not)and filter the oil. This appears to have fixed the problem.

John MB,
Thanks for the info. Can you tell me where the three sumps are? Also can you get to these filter screens without taking the tractor in half? Thanks, Don

The three sumps are subdivisions of the transmission that must be drained individually to get all of the oil out. There are three plugs on the left side of the transmission. These must be removed and all seven gallons of oil drained. The PS pump and screen are attached to the inside of the approx. 6 in sq cover on the right hand side forward of the brake pedals below the battery box. The front drain plug is directly opposite. The main pump screen is accessed through the top cover between the shift levers and the seat. Don't lose the drain plugs as they are 18mm same as aircraft spark plugs. A manual would probably come in handy about here.
