I need to do rear axle seals on my TE-20. I've found some good info on this page, and am looking for more. I read about how to press the seal without bunging it up. I've also read about the shim adjustment on the axles when re-assembling. Still a little fuzzy on the process of this adjustment (seems like a lot of on and off for the backing plate); any tips on how to make this easier? Also, should I expect to shim both sides? Seems like I should only have to worry about one side if the main concern is that the ends of the half shaft don't meet in the differential. Any other tips on how to make this job easier would be much appreciated?

Yep, this is a hit and miss adjustment. try taking shims out of the side that looks like it has the most shims in it. also might want to think about installing the aftermarket Sure-Seals.these go on the inside of the bearing. can get these from Central Tractor in Iowa.

We just tore down the axles and what we see on the inside of thge axle retainer doesn't look anything like the picture in the service manual. Do you know what these after market sure-seals look like? Or better yet how they would be removed? They look like they are pressed onto the retainer housing.
