Can someone tell me where the tach cable is suppose to connect to ? I'm missing the cable and will need to get one but Im not sure where it connects to. Also there is a sensor with a rubber boot over it located o n top of the trans. on right side in front of steering box. It appears to be an electrical conn. Can someone tell me what this is for? Thanks for your help.

Dave

A 65 with a gas engine, the tach drives from the back of the distributor, the diesels drive from the back right side of the block from the camshaft.

MF65 tach cable on the gas connects to the Generator. If the generator has been replaced by an alternator your out of luck.

The rubber boot you describe, is the neutral safety switch. It is there to pervent the tractor from starting if the hi-lo lever is in gear. This protects you from running yourself over when you start the tractor while standing next to it. But we never do that do we....

p.s. that is what the s on the shift diagram (L-S-H) stands for s=start.

diesel or gas? might make a difference on the tach. The boot sounds like you mean the neutral safety switch, which should be wired so the transmission is in neutral or you cannot start it. Two white striped wires go into the switch, one with a blue stripe & other with red stripe.
