Massey harris 44, about to receive a 327 small block chevy. Was wondering if anyone makes a motor mount kit for this application, or if anyone else may have done this before and mayhave any pointers on this project, thanks, JOHN

It is really not that hard. Will take some thought though. I have a 444 with a 400 SBC in it. Get a small, adjustable starter (we use a crv brand) and it will fit fine. We used a lakewood bellhousing and adapter plate for a 2 disc clutch. We pull with it in Ohio. We have a 5700# antique V8 class. Like some of the other posts a double roller chain coupler is fine and you should be able to use the original input shaft 1 3/8" 10 spline is a common spline. E-Mail me and i will get you my phone # Put something about Massey V8 in the subject so i dont delete it though. Nick

Hello,
Don"t listen to Harris Guy, Most tractors that get V-8 transplants are the ones who"s original engine is too far gone for rebuild (Example,Hole in block from busted rod or cracked block & head)

A friend of mine put a 350 in a Massey 55, which would be the same as your 327 in a 44. What my friend did, He made an adaptor plate from 5/16" steel, and used a clutch from a 1 Ton truck. He fabricated his own motor mounts. Some grinding had to be done to the frame to make room for the starter. No other modifications had to be made to the tractor, and Nothing on the engine needed modification.

Good luck With your project & have fun!!

Why mess over another classic 44? If you are a
'Massey Nut', restore the 44, to stock design.
The H260 was one of the best engines built, in
it's era. A 327 is no after thought, but would
enhance a car or pick up project. The 44 w/H260 is worth about double, the repower 327 concept.
It's your tractor, to decide direction.

I went even further and put a 318 dodge with the automatic tranny in a 55 harris. I coupled the output of the automatic tranny to the input of the tractor's standard 4 speed. It does not have a cluth. I choose the gear I want in the standard usually third and then just shift the auotmatic like a car. Great loader tractor. Oh ya it can go 55 miles per hour too. Doesn't take long haulling bales or loading them as it will back up at 20 miles per hour too. Have used it for 9 years now and works great. Took only 3 hours to put in the tractor. Ground out some cast for the starter, oil filter and crank pulley. Had to mount the radiator ahead about 5 inches past the old position. Welded a sproket to the splinned tube of the old car drive shaft(cut it off of the drive shat universal) to slide on the tranny output shaft too hook the double chain cuopler to.
