255 Aux Hydraulic Filter Question

I recently purchased a very used 255. It runs quite well but had not been well maintained.

I noticed the auxilary hydralic filter had a marker written 4-11-98. It was not a housing and element like the manual but rather a canister type screw on filter.

After replacing the canister with the same one (Massey #M1000...something-I can look it up if needeed) I noticed the auxilary hydraulic filter light on the dash came ON.

I have a manual but it doesn't seem to tell you if that light is supposed to be on or off? I figure off is correct as I also put in a new air filter and that light is not on.

My biggest concern is that the manual says to be sure and use a 20 micron element-not a 10. Now I am concerned is that a 10 micron oil filter I put on there? If so why didn't it light up with the old one on there?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Paul

I have the same problem with the Aux. filter on my 245. The light will always be on except for when the outside temp. is above 60 degrees F. I have tried both MF and Wix filters, and I also changed my rear end/hyd oil. I'm looking forward to anyone having an answer or explanation for this.
