A friend just bought a 699 mf, Mounted on the fender just beside the lift controls is a small lever with a cable coming out going down towards the trans. Symbol to the front looks like a 3 pt. lift symbol, the on towards the rear looks like a remote hydraulic symbol. Its in the front position now, (lift works and the remotes work) Moving the lever towards the rear position causes a faint whirring sound. Dont have an operators manual, so can someone tell me the function of this control? thanks

It"s called the Mk3A valve. Essentially, with it in the linkage position you have normal linkage operation from the quadrant, and auxiliary flow at the spools. When you move to the other position the linkage port is blocked off, the Ferguson pump is switched into constant pumping and combined with the auxilliary pump flow to give an increase in flow. This is particularly useful for loader operation. Because the linkage is blocked off you will not get any flow at the trailer tipping pipe (if fitted). Do not leave it in combined flow for extended periods when not using the hydraulics, you will overheat the transmission. It is called a Mk3A valve because it was introduced with the Mk3A Ferguson pump.
