Mine is not on the steering box. It is on the left vertical side of the transmission case as described earlier. Maybe mine is just odd. It seems to be in many other ways.:)

Nick, I have an FE35 and it has the serial no. stamped into the left side of the transmission, about two inches down even with the shifter and filler plug. I don't know if this is factory stamps but if not a previous owner went to a lot of trouble. You may have to scratch some paint. I did. Hope this helps. Cosmo

Sorry nick that's the only place, you can get the year of manufacture of off the engine casting date, this is quite accurate as the castings did not hang around for very long.

If you would like some help finding them on it, just email me.

My FE35 is SNFY360173. The number on the transmission is 182 840 M1 with above the number. Also, I will email a picture of the number on the transmission if you want it. C. T.

C.T., My FE35 has 182 840 M2 embossed on the trans. It has the serial no. FE35 SHF 166993 stamped just above that. Very neatly done is why I think it is factory.

Cosmo, Who would go to the trouble to do that other than the factory? I just don't know why mine doesn't have it. I went out and took a picture and it is not on mine. Does yours have the (MHF) above the 182 840 M2? I wonder what the 182 840 M1/M2 means. Thanks, C. T.

I went out and eyeballed mine with a bright light and it doesn't have (MHF). Only the serial no. above what I suppose is the transmission casting no. My data plate on the inst. panel is too corroded to read except words to the effect it was made in Coventry, Eng. Maybe a previous owner stamped it so it would be available. If so, it was a nice thing to do. Later, Cosmo

Cosmo, It would seem that the stamped/engraved serial # in the transmission case is a lot smarter than the little square plate pop-riveted to the dash. There are a lot of serial # questions on this site and it is normally because the plate is missing or too damaged to read. C. T.

The "with above the number" should have read "with (MHF) above the number" with less than and greater than symbols in place of the parentheses, but apparently these are not allowed as text in html. C. T.
