Advice Please, Friend just sold a house with 5 acres and now wants to sell his tractor (99"? 231 diesel with tuft tires and 450 hours). Could someone tell me what a ball-park price for this tractor would be and what the HP is?..... .thanks very much..... E.Ray

Price depends on where you live. You know, supply and demand. I have one of these so I check the market from time to time and they run around the $8K-$9K range for this age and hours. It sold for about $12,500 new. A 231 has about 34 HP on the PTO. I'd be glad to answer any other questions you have on a 231.

Tom..... ...thank your very much. When he prices it to me, I will now be more knowledgeable to dicker with him. Don't know anything about MF. I now have a Jubilee and a 801 ford but, would like a diesel. Have you had any problems with yours?..... .again thanks..... ...E.Ray

No problems with mine. It's my first Massey. The foot pedals take some getting used to. Other than that the only complaint is the hydraulic pump is to small for a loader and the auxilery pump is expensive. Things I like about it, starts instantly even when it's cold outside, tight steering radius, uses little fuel, heavy duty compared to other tractors in its size range, easy to work on and it's more like a farm tractor than a compact.

If you like your tractors but just want a new tractor that is more dependable it might be a good choice. The basic engineering is from a generation ago, not influenced by the compact tractor models. As a matter of fact, today I was talking to a friend that purchased a new 4600 JD after I got mine. He said he wished he had perchased a one like the 231 for this reason.
