I recently acquired a MH 35 combine. Cute little sucker, but I have some questions. It has a 6 volt system on it, positive or negative ground? Does anyone know of an owners manual that might be available? There is about 3/4 inch of crap in the gas tank, but the line, fuel pump and carb are clean, I'm thinking of taking the tank to the radiator shop to have it cleaned unless someone has another suggestion. I'm sure I will have 100s of questions as I get going, but my goal is to get it running and hopefully operating in time for the IL Massey H/F Collectors State show next summer.

I used to have a 35, combined oats with it for several years does a decent enough job. Carry an iron bar about 4 or 5 feet long with you. They plug easily, especially in good heavy grain. The bar is used for leverage to turn the cylinder and pull out the slug. Some other tips: The F-140 Continental engine is tough to start after the combine has been sitting for awhile(like during the off season for combining). Take one of the plugs out and pour a little gas in the cylinder. Put the plug back in and fire it up. The radiator tends to plug up quickly from grain hulls blowing around. There is no rotary screen to suck the dirt away from the radiator like the newer combines have. Keep an eye on the radiator and clean it frequently. The throttle and choke linkages are kind of tricky as they are controlled by wires going to control panel.
I currently have a 205 Massey combine, they have considerably more capacity and a 6 cylinder overhead valve gas engine. I actually paid $300 less for the 205 than I paid for the 35.

They do not have the rotary screen but there is a fan inside the housing to keep it clean, never remember starting problems after rebuild, had the 8' platform, 7' would have been nicer, ran a No 20 corn head, corn head was limiting factor in how fast you could shell, no good for clover, had no pickup real or automatic header control, easier to haul than a mid size tractor, our radiator went bad and put on and ran a 55 Desota car radiator

John I just got an operators manual for my 35 from the local Massey dealer part #690491M1 cost about $8. The book says 6 volts Positive ground. Mine has been changed to 12 volts with a altenator. Hasn't been started in several yrs may be my next project. Tom

Thanks Cowboy, that's the info I'm looking for. I called the dealer but he was busy, now I have a number for him.

John I should mention that it took about a week for the dealer to get the manual. On mine I only have the slats on the header no spring teeth. Like I said it is a future project, they are neat little machines and so small even beside what is considered a small combine today.Mine was last used in fescue. I have known this combine since I was a kid, it belonged to a parttime farmer and has been sold 4 times since he owned it and I got it 2 yrs ago. Whereabouts in IL. are you? I live near Jackson Mo.I don't farm anymore just love this old stuff. Will talk later. Tom
