I have a MF65 with a continental G176 engine the engine has low hours since rebuilt. my problem is that it smokes bad. I have no loss in power. I have had the engine apart and can"t find anything wrong. any suggestions would be great.

RUSS Did you check the cylinders for out of roundness and taper? The rule of thumb is out of roundness should not exceed .005 of an inch, and taper should not exceed .010 of an inch. Are the pistons ring lands worn? Or are they new pistons and sleeves? From past experience once you remove the rings from the cylinders that have been runned they will not seat properly again.

Russ,
Have you checked to see if you have valve guide seals on your intake valves. There should be a rubber seal either in the retainer assembly or a seal where the valve goes into the guide. If you get a service manual it will tell you where the seal should be. If you have worn or missing seals the oil used to lube the rocker arms will run right down the valve stems and into the intake port in the head.
Good Luck
Brian.

Does the cylinder walls show good/nice hone marks??? Did they have them scarfed enough??? They could have broken a ring when installing the pistons too. Did you have them out??? Something else... they might of had the engine to hot sometime and it took the temper out of the rings...

I've had the pistons out everything looked fine Every cylinder had a small amount of oil on the top of the piston. this smokes from cold start, right up thru warm.
