MF-65 Cylinder Head and Fuel Injector Removal

I am in the process of rebuilding a badly neglected Massey Ferguson 65 diesel. As I was attempting to remove the cylinder head, I noticed -- much to my surprise -- that the fuel injectors obscure some of the nuts securing the head.

The injectors themselves are flanked by two nuts. It appears to me that if the nuts are removed, the injectors should somehow lift out (not screw out)....but they don't budge no matter how creatively I curse.

Exactly how do I remove them? And do I REALLY have to take the injectors out to remove the cylinder head?

Robert,
If your engine is the Perkins A4-192 engine, (indirect injection) you should be able to remove the head without first removing the injectors. It sounds like you have the later AD4-203 engine with direct injection, where the injectors are mounted vertically in the head. In this case you must remove the injectors first. I suspect the injectors are seized in their bores - they should just pull out once the two securing nuts are removed. The answer here is lots of plus gas or similar round the base of the injector and leverage applied under the flange of the injector.
