Hi Kev

While of changing the gearing to achive the higher speeds Looks interesting, does it warrant the work and parts needed to achive it?

After fitting taller row crop wheels, I now have the opposite problem of being too fast for some of the row crop work I do in the essential oil industry , I replaced 16.9x30 heavy cast centre wheels with 14.9x38 pressed steel centres and still need more ground clearance!

To solve the speed problem I opened a real can of worms, the diff in my early 165 has a pinion tooth count of 13 and 45 on the crown wheel the ratio being 3.4615^ and I would like to install the 6 x 37 pinion and crown wheel set from a early 135 with the ratio of 6.1666^, the problem I have now, is that the flange on the diff centre is about 1.125" too far away from the centre line of the pinion, as the pinion is nearly half the diameter of the original,
My question is, does the diff centre from a 135 with diff lock and drum brakes fit into the 165 that has diff lock and dry disk brakes or is the centre from the 135 wider? If this approach isnt possible I will take the centre to a machine shop and have a spacer ring made up to fit between the crown wheel and the flange on the diff centre.

Have fun, Arthur from Tassy

Arther-Use H.D.epicyclic reductions/axle shafts, loose about a gear in speed, another thought is the rear end from a 65 high clearance, those wer on 38s. Kev-The speed shift can be reversed on a 3000 series but I don't know if its the same unit on a 300 series tractors,if you have a go,make shure you correctly time the planet gears to the sun and ring gears or the tractor will stall the instant you let the clutch out!
