Last night I pulled off the Clutch/Starter cavity inspection plate on my MF-65. The flat plate just in front of the cotter pin.

On it were two broken gear teeth, and to Washers/Spacers. The gear teeth I identified as part of a former starter. My starter had a "rebuilt" sticker on it and the teeth matched the spindle perfectly.

The other two parts I am having trouble identifying. The are the same and look like either washers or spacers, bearing spacers perhaps?

They are bright metal rings, 3/16 to 1/8 thick. O.D. is about 1" and i.d about 3/4 to 5/8. leaving the face radius of 1/8 to 3/16.

I appologize that I do not have more accurate measurements. But do you have an Idea what these could be? Again they were found in the clutch cavity.

Jeff

they are thrust washers from the starter bendix that broke up,clutch spring washers are of insulating material,not steel.

Richard, and Rob thanks for your replies.

I too, first thought it might be a pressure spring washer from the clutch. However, the clutch seems to work fine. Also, a check of the parts book last night showed that the pressure spring washers are 7/8 O.D. 35/64 I.D. and 3/32 thick.

I measured the part this morning and it is O.D. = .780" ~ 25/32"
I.D. = .565" ~ 9/16"
Thick= .063" ~ 1/16"

Obviously smaller than the clutch spring. I came to a similar conclusion that it must be a "Drive Pinion Stop" PN 1024206M1 from the starter. The only concern I had was the IPM only showed one of these thrust washers in the tip of the starter. However, I am relieved to know that the probable source is from a previous (and now fixed) failure.

It is a blessing that people such as yourselves know these systems so well that you could provide the two sources of these parts from my vague description. Thanks....

Jeff

Jeff,
considering where you found these washers, I only have one guess. In your clutch assembly there are springs with washers, the washers would be approximately the same as you described. You may have a couple of springs missing these washers. The clutch assembly would have to be torn down to see.
Hope you find the answer.
