Gentlemen, i plan to purchase either a MF 50, or a MF 135 in the near future. i've never used either tractor in the field so I'd like some advice on the pros and cons of each model. I know teh 135 is about 10 years newer than the 50. The paint is better on the 50 and looks like it is in better condition. The rubber is about the same on both tractors. THe 50 is for sale at $3000, and the 135 is for sale at $4000. Are both of these tractors usually reliable and will the 50 do as much work as the 135? Thanks in advance, Doug.

*OPINION* I think the 50 is a little bit better, more weight, plenty of power. We had one for several years and really liked it. Either one would be handy as a pocket on a shirt. Does either have power steering or Multi-Power? How do the hours compare? Dealer owned;-( or farmer owned? Ours had power steering and no MP yet it was a great tractor. Big Deans website has lots of info on what to look for.

i'm not very familiar with MF's. The 50 I'm looking at has the hi-lo transmission, live PTO, and live hydraulics. i'll have to check on the power steering question. I do like the looks of the older MF 50 versus the newer 135 - my grandfather had a Ferguson TO-30 that I spent a lot of time on as a kid. My great-uncle owns that tractor now. (Grandpa bought it new in the 50's). Thanks for the help, Big Dean's web site was very helpful. Doug.

Hi,

MY OPINION ..... ....If the 135 is a UK model, take it over the 50 ( I would take it anyway!! ) The 135 UK has a heavy front axle ( same as American 50 ) Powersteering, foot throttle, and optional multi power & diff lock , and head lights in the grill, as well as square fenders!!

Take care

Will

The 50 and 135 are virtually the same machine from the fan belt back, depending on engine and options.
