Hydraulics weight

How much weight can the hydraulics on a MF 165 lift? I want to use my 165 to move round hay bales. It has a FEL but I will have to get a quick disconnect for the bucket. In the interim, I hope to use a rear mounted hay spear to move the bales. My options for hay are bales weighing either 500 lbs or 1000 lbs. Which do you recommend I use?

I use my 175 to move 1200 pound round bales with. I was moving the with the front loader to begin with but it blew the seals on the hydaulic pick up tube and now with that replaced it just wont quit do it. i can pull them off a trailer and it will hold em in the air. So i would recommend not using the front for them, even it will do it you are stressing it. The rear on the other hand, not even a problem, I have done 2000 pound bales with the rear lift. So at your discretion.

Del,

I have a 75 model 255 which is the tractor that replaced the 165. My 255 has the 203 engine which I believe is the same as yours. I move a 5 X6 or 6 X6 bale that is baled by a 130 or more horsepower tractor. I would guess my bales could weigh between 1,500 to 1,700 lbs and might even be heavier. My tractor lifts easlier and some are heavy enough that I may have to back them into place but this is rare. I have just added rear hydralics and a FEL on mine this year. If maintained properly I believe you will move most roll bales with ease. At the worst, you may have to buy some front weight if you move hay without the loader on the tractor.
