Hydraulic filter cleaned, but what about the wire?

I worked on my MF135 this weekend, doing maintenance of oil, etc. I pulled the PTO handle plate on the side of the housing and found the hydraulic filter and pulled it out and cleaned it. It really needed it! But I found a small gauge wire twisted around the top of the filter wing nut and connected across the housing to the other side and connected to another piece of metal. I'm sure it was factory installed and used to ensure the filter didn't twist off from vibration.... but how necessary is it? Should I try to replace it or can I just make sure the wing nut on the top of the filter is very snug and forget about the wire? Anyone else have to deal with this securing wire?

Thanks guys, you're right. In fact, I feel rather foolish even posting this question after I thought about a little more. I'll re-install the wire tonight. Otis

In the avaiation world we call it safety wire. It keeps things fom coming off as you guessed. Just imagine the damage that wing nut would do to the hydraulic pump, or anything else that is inside there. Now imagine how stupid you would feel about it because you didn't replace 10 cents worth of wire. nuff said
