I green chopped a load for the girls yesterday, then shut down next to the barn to help with chores. 1/2 hr. later I was going to hook onto the cultivator, and it wouldn't Start. Won't crank, won't even click. I bought a new switch and plugged it in and no difference. I jumped the starter with a screw driver, and the ran, but the guages didn't work and the amp guage showed no charge. What could be the problem?

Don, I had a 285 with the same problem. One of the two wire leading to the ampere guage has a fuse in it. Replace it, its blown..

Yep- it"s one of those things that slips your mind. I"ve had this happen before and my dad knew right away what it was. This time he had no clue. Bought a new volt meter and cleaned up the battery terminals atleast...:) Feel a little on the stupid side but now it"s alright.
Soon as Big Dean mentioned something about a fuse, it clicked again.

Check your fuse on some 200 series tractors there was a fusable link down by the starter that would burn into but insolation won't be burned I can't remember it the MF285 has one or not. Big Dean
