1964 MF 35 Diesel.
Drained gear case oil to change lower 3-pont pin.
The oil that drained out was not gear oil, (thin and no "bad" smell) but service manual calls for 80-90 gear oil.
Question is this:
doesnt the hydraulics feed from the same place??
Wouldnt 80-90 be too heavy for the hydraulics??
what should be put back in? is the service manual in error, or did the former owner put the wrong oil in it??

Hi,

It calls for 90 mineral oil. ( 90 is hard to find so we run 100 mineral oil ) Do not run gear oil in it. could be a costly mistake.

yes. And there's three drain plugs to be sure as much as possible drains out.

Don't mind answering your question but do strongly suggest you look through the archives for posts on MF 35's. There's a large quantity of information in there.

Many Wal-marts have GL-1 spec 80-90W gear oil. I think that's what the manual calls for. Check the forum archives. Lots and lots of discussion on this subject.

My MF-35 has been running a universal fluid for many years with apparently no ill effect.

You won't be wrong if you use what the manual says.
