Just got a 1964.. MF-165 with a backblade. The steering was REALLY sloppy, tightened the adjustment screw, and I wondered if it would affect the sensor that controls the power steering, and it did, wheels turned all the way to the left. Adjusted the actuating linkage, and steering is centered, but now it's more like power steering by armstrong. ***My problem is my 3-point lift isn't working, and I assume the hydraulics I'll need for my hay binder aren't either. If I lost all hydraulics, I'm assuming that would take out my power steering too? Any suggestions? Got a shop manual, but need an operator's manual, or at least directions on how to check my hydaulic fluid. I'm familiar with small gas tractors, but diesel's are new to me. Help!!! Mike.

The power steering pump & reservoir is a 6" cylindrical unit on the left front of the engine.
Check the fluid thru the hex threaded plug on the upper outside of the cylinder, toward the back. Full is just up to the hole.

The tractor trans/hydraulic fluid is checked thru the 3" dia. threaded plug on top of the trans. housing, just behind & to the left of the gear shift boot(I think you need a 1 3/8" wrench or crescent).

Your right about the hydraulics. The 3pt, aux hydraulics and PTO all run off the 2nd stage of your clutch. Check out Big Deans web site for adjustment procedures on the 2 stage clutch. This can be done from under tractor thru an inspection hole. The power steering adjusting screw should be backed out about 9 to 11 turns from snug. The power steering pump is mounted on the left front side of the engine, just inside of the steering linkage on the diesel. Good luck.

Big Dean's web site.
