Fixed wide front or adjustable? Harris Guy has been collecting those fixed wide front ends from Masseys and selling them as paper weights and boat anchors. A ton of 44's up in these parts with the fixed wide fronts, a lot of them are still used as acreage tractors or in small haying operations.

Adjustable wide front MH axle assemblies are not
rare, just most are in neglected condition, lack
being greased for decades. Lots of wear parts, so
good replacement parts are rare. Steering linkage
is loose, both gears, sector & worm, are items
for the machine shop to attempt rebuild. Buying
two 'fixed'(Standard) axles, can retro to one wider axle, by cutting, drilling, bolting. The
wheelbase is shorter, you gain some stability.
Process is cut one axle at support housing; second, at spindle housing, decide your width,
drill two 3/4" holes per side. Tie rods need tube
extension, or replacement. You can add a wider
support brace, from your stock of two fixed
axle supports. Run 6.50-16's. These obsolete
fixed axles, are aplenty, in salvage yards. No
one buys them, and two save you welding any
cast. I don't have parts sales; a restorer of
the correct red. Good luck. Hello, Alberta Mike,
did you buy that Special?

Hello there M, how are things with you? Weather here today is absolutely beautiful. No more purchases of any type, correct red or otherwise. Taking my Avery A to a show south of Edmonton today, pretty big show and it's the first time for me with a tractor at a show. I'll watch out for those little 2-legged critters who like to scratch paint with their little sandle buckles!

Well I still am a Massey guy, my first tractor project was a Massey and they are easy to work on that's for sure. Big show here today south of Edmonton, getting bigger each year, almost too big but it is a nice event. Temperature was a bit hot, 32 degrees but a nice little breeze. I had my Avery A there, first time for me with a machine at a show. Back tomorrow and that'll be it but it is a lot of fun with a lot of nice stuff.
