I just got my first Massey, a 255 this past weekend, what a nice little tractor. It really starts, drives, and runs nice and tight for it's age.

The tach was not working when I got it and I put in a new one. I have ordered a service manual but don't have it yet.

What I need to know is on the 255 at what engine RPM is the PTO turning at 540?

Also I have to click the key a couple times before it will start-I think starter solenoid. An recomendations on a good place online to order parts for the 255?

If you haven't already go ahead and order the operator's manual and a parts manual. I don't think it will be money wasted. You have a good tractor as I have had mine for 28 years and just sprung for a new Bush Hog loader.

I 'think' it's about 1850, there's a bold white line where 540 PTO is. The solenoid can be replaced separately, even NAPA should have one, it's a Delco-Remy. Can also try pulling the terminal out where the battery cable connects and rotating it "180" degrees, it should last a while longer until you can get it fixed(I did that to an MF 245 about 2 years ago and it's still going). You will have to take the entire end of the solenoid off to push it in some and rotate it. A dealer close by helps, maybe someone else knows of a good online source. That's a great tractor!
