OK. I'm an idiot. I've had a MF 240 for 5 years and never ran it dry of diesel...until today.

How do I bleed the lines and get it started?

You need MF manuals for your tractor.

I have had my 255 for 28 years. It came with an operator's manual. In the last two years I have purchased the Massey shop manual and a Massey Parts manual. If you aren't close to a MF dealer then by all means contact this site for any of the above manuals. If you are near a MF dealer spend a few extra dollars and get the MF manuals from the dealer. The pictures are a little clearer than from other sources.

If the above means you haven't changed fuel filters in 5 years this is a great opportunity. In North Mississippi I missed changing one fall and my fuel pump froze. The repair cost $499 all for the cost of a $8 filter. You should consider changing yearly at the least. Gook luck.

A good opportunity to renew the fuel filters while you are at it (unless they have been changed recently).

There are 2 bleed screws on the side of your injection pump, 5/16" a.f., undo them about a turn, manually pump your lift pump until fuel only comes out (no air) and tighten them back up. Next undo any one of your injector lines at the injector a turn, crank engine with starter until the engine kicks over and tighten back up, do not place your hands or fingers anywhere near the fuel as it bleeds out at the injector or you could end up with blood poisoning from the fuel penetrating the skin under pressure. cheers, sibby.
