I recently purchased 399 4wd with 1100 hrs. Now find the gearbox has dropped a bearing somewhere in the input to the box, (suspect tortose / hare) and the box has self destructed. Tractor wrecker tells me this is a common fault.
Does anybody have history of MF gearbox failures?
Where can I get a replacement?

You can get replacement boxes through AGCO parts division (at a price). If you are in the UK speak to Agri Transmissions in Nuneaton. They recondition the boxes for AGCO so would be cheaper to deal direct with them.

call worthington ag parts. they junk tractors and would probably be cheaper to buy whole unit than parts. My advice would see if they can find one without the creeper as this is the third case of creeper failure that I have heard. all 3 credit the failure from heavy lugging under load (2 were plowing, 1 subsoiling). good luck
