I am looking for the paint codes for a 1950 Massey Harris 44-6. I am thinking the company Dupont carrys the colors. I also would like any information on the decals.

If your committed, Dupont Finishmaster stores
can provide Imron industrial paint. Apply with
brush, roller, or spray. The cast is decent with
a brush. Take the sheet metal to an auto shop,
to spray. Dupont has Harris red. Straw yellow for rims, is actually a golden yellow. They
listed a MHF yellow, but this is 1957 combine rim
yellow. The Rep told me to bring a 16" rim, no
tire. He cleaned an inner area, matched the color. It's darn close to old CAT yellow(pre-'75)
Expensive paint, but no jokers. Decals are now
difficult. To compliment the straw yellow rims, you need the correct golden yellow decals, not those e Bay 'bright yellow' surplus vinyl. K&K
has them, but pricey, Hunter/Maple does not.
Paint was $120.00 Post back should you want the
codes, I'd find them.

While I agree that the DuPont paints are a good match for the Massey-Harris tractors, I personally would think VERY carefully about the use of Imron. If any mistakes are made in an Imron finish, they are quite difficult to correct as the paint is so very hard. In my humble opinion I think that DuPont's "Centauri", (an acyrlic enamel which will accept a hardening agent which improves gloss and durability), is a better fit for our old tractors. The gloss is not so "wet" looking and seems to look more the way these tractors possibly did when the factory paint was still fresh. Also, PPG/Ditzler still has a pretty good match for the MH Red. I was able to cross an older MH Ditzler synthetic enamel color to their newer (Delstar) acrylic enamel. This (older) PPG number is 70837. A paint store carrying PPG should be able to cross reference this number. I really appreciate the information from "Harris Guy" about the darkness of the MH Straw Yellow paint. I am going try the tip about spraying a metal piece with the old Cat yellow to see about the darkness. Thanks all for the great information in these postings.
