M-F loader cylinder rebuild Part II

OK, I now finally have my genuine M-F kits to fix my leaky dual-action cylinders.

The loader in question is a model MF 235.

The end caps on these have a portion of them sliced away, and they will rotate when a punch is put into that cut-away portion. I am uncertain as yet how they come off. Looked at the blowup at the dealer, and even that leaves me unclear, as it indicates a clip on the end. A clip is not visible.

Can any one help? The dealer suggested I may have to tap the end caps in to uncover a clip?

Thanks for all help.

There are two general methods of fixing the ram end caps which I have come across. They are either screwed in on a thread, or are fixed from the end with a circlip and a snap ring.

I'm not really sure what you mean by the portion sliced away. From what your dealer has said I suggest that you use a punch to try to tap the end cap back into the cylinder. If this works then a snap ring will be revealed inside the bore of the tube. Remove this and pull out the rod, piston and cap together. Have the ports facing downwards and over a drip tray! Also hold the ram tube in the vice at the bottom end, if you try to grip it near the cap you will just tighten the tube onto the cap and probably never get it out!
If it is screwed on there is usually some form of locking device, often a tab washer or similar, but saying this simetimes there is nothing! Sorry I can't be any more specfic, I think that the 235 must be an American market only product as I can't find reference to it. It is quite likely a Sue? (don't know how it's spelled) loader in MF red.

I dunno, but it has a Massey Ferguson tag riveted on it and the model is MF235.

To visualize what I mean about the end caps, take this O as the end cap, viewed from the ram end. In your mind, slice a portion off the right side of it. It would sort of look like a D then. I could send ya a pic if I had yer email.

That is what I can't figure out. If you tap it around with a punch, it does move around the bore but the blowup showed no threads.

Tapping on the end to try to move it into the cylinder does nothing. Seems it won't budge going that way.

Ideas? If I can get past this, in about an hour these could be ready to put back on.
