I am now the proud owner of a MF 165 with a FEL. I am new to the MF and tractors in general. My problem is that somebody has put the wrong dipstick in the tractor. The dipstick kind of hangs in the tube in the block and generally doesn't fit at all. Where could I find the correct replacement dipstick?
Also, when I rev up the motor some oil will initially be pushed out the dipstick tube. I am hoping that I don't need a rebuild. Is there anything else I could check that might be causing this problem?
Thanks for everyone's help.

Tom, hit the nail on the head!! I purchased a MF 165 dsl about 2 yrs ago, did everything that Tom listed and I haven't had the 1st problem with the tractor.

The only complant with my tractor is it dosen't have a front end loader on it. I sure wish it did!!!!! !! Maybe one day, I have to save up for the front mounted pump and loader.

Where in Virginia are you located. I am south of Richmond in Chesterfield County.

Good luck you will enjoy your MF 165.

Charlie,

I am in King George, VA. That makes us neighbors! Seperated by only 50 minutes of drive time. I contacted a Massey dealer in Ashland and he tells me the MF 165 dipstick has been discontinued. His recommendation was to contact a bone yard and see if they could get one for me.

My 165 previous owner was a local mechanic. He changed all the fluids when he got the tractor about a year ago. He even changed the oil filter to the screw on type using the adapter kit from Massey. I really like this tractor and the FEL is great. I am going to be changing all the fluids in the near future.

Maybe we can get together some time and discuss tractors over a cup of java.

King George, that is not to far away. I have talked and dealt with the Massey Dealer in Ashland before, bad thing is they arn't open on Saturday. You may want to try Dinwidde tractor, I usually get all my stuff from them, if he doesn't have he can get it. They have a lot of Massey Fergson stuff in stock. It's worth a try!!! 804-861-4227

Good luck

Delmar, your local MF dealer will have the dipstick. While you are there order 3 MF Brand manuals: Operator Manual, Repair Manual, and Parts Manual. You need all 3 of them if you intend to keep your tractor. You have not provided enough info as to whether the oil blowing out of the dipstick hole is caused by any internal problems in the engine, or is simply caused by the wrong dipstick. First thing you should do is to change ALL fluids and filters. Use the recommended MF fluids, and be sure to clean all "screen" type filters. Use Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 or Shell Rotella 15W40 and a name brand oil filter. Change the final drive fluids. Flush radiator, check thermostat, use distilled water in a 50/50 mix, with additive for anti-cavitation. Remove and clean all battery, starter, and alternator connections. Check battery with load tester. Replace any worn belts, hoses, etc. When buying a used tractor good, complete maintenance up front will give you years of trouble free service. Good luck with your new tractor.
