Good morning all. My 65 is stuck in reverse. Going to have a look at it, this afternoon, after work. Does anybody have some suggestions for me? Thanks. Pete

Pete,

This is a common problem on Massey's old and new but try this. First MAKE SURE the tractor cannot roll; try to block the wheels instead of locking the brakes or have someone on the tractor to help you. Take the oil fill plug out of the top of trans and you should be able to use a prybar to get the shifter back down into the reverse shift fork. What happens is when you shift into reverse there is a tendency to lift the shifter up, the shift rail moves into reverse but the very tip of the shifter comes out. It can be fixed by replacing the shifter and related parts but if you can get into the habit of pushing down on the shifter when you go to reverse, it will almost never happen. Again, its easy to get out but make absolutely certain the tractor cannot roll when it comes out. You may need someone to push the clutch down to take presssure off the gears. Good luck!!!

I always had success by just using a large screwdriver and sliding the largest gear forward or backward(whichever gear was stuck-2nd or rev) to the center of the shaft. This procedure was brought to light by Big Dean. He detailed it on his website:
