Just bought a 1954 Massey Harris 44 special. I drained the gas to fix a small pin hole where thefuel line exits the tank. Topped up the antifreeze filled with gas and ran great for about ten minutes then died. Engine turns but wont start. Can anyone tell me what this might be or where to start trouble shooting.

I had a similar problem with my 44 Special. I think what has happened here is that when you had the tank off to repair the pin hole, that rust flakes fell loose from inside the tank from the tank being moved around. When you filled it up with fuel, all the rust flakes would be swirling around inside the tank. The tractor would start fine, but eventually the suction of gas from the tank to the carb is interuppted when a piece of flaky rust sits on top of the stand pipe of the
sediment bowl. Once the tractor sits for a while, enough fuel is able to seep by the flake and the tractor will run ok and then stop again. I think you are going to have to remove the fuel tank and give it a good cleaning inside.

first unhook gas line and turn on shutoff and see if you have flow if not something in tank or sediment bulb clean if needed. nezt take cap off remove rotor and lower cap with switch on break points with a insulated screw driver by breaking i mean to open so you can get a spark if not go to source and see if you have voltage and then trace back. matter of elemnation good luck
