I am lookig for a source for a good heavy duty starter push button switch to go on the dash of our MH44. I can get one from an auto parst store that works for a while but its not heavy enough. The cable studs on the origonal switch were 3/8" and all the replacements I have found have 5/16" studs. They just don't stand up to the amperage for very long.

i'd suggest you keep the low amperage switch, and instead of directly engaging the starter with it use it to actuate a relay, which then direct's the current to the starter. even a small 2$ relay can stand currents up to 30 amps.

Jake, I have been kicking your idea around for a while myself. A farmall 300 or 400 used a 6 relay to power the starter. They were a regular change item on those tractors too.

You may just have to go with an older-style foot switch common on Farmall's, etc. They were made pretty heavy and should still be available somewhere. I have one mounted on the dash and works well. Try to have a way of QUICKLY disconnecting battery in case anything in the dash area shorts out and/or catches fire, as the fuel tank is only an inch or two away!

Don, I thought about one of those switches but the ones I have seen are a larger diamiter than the origonal switch and I didn't realy want to cut the dash.

Use a Nappa ST6. It has 3/8 NF studs.

Guess what? I ordered up the st6 switch from nappa and got another one with 5/16" studs. Good try though thanks for you efforts.
