Went thru engine, new mains, new rings, honed cylinder walls, head redone, new points, plugs, cleaned up carb. etc. Seems to be getting plenty of fuel, spark seems strong, runs very smooth at idle, a little miss when opening throttle quickly, smooth response when opening throttle slowly. Cannot get engine to run smooth over 2,000-2100 RPMS and will completely die out in hard pull at about 1550-1600 rpms. Will put on dyno tonite to try and figure it out.
Do not have much history of tractor or engine.
Any and all pointers greatly appreciated.

well, it sure sounds like it's running out of fuel. the stumbling when you open the throttle sounds like the carb. needs a little fine tuning. hope this helps. david

Put on dyno last nite, you are correct, carburator needs some fine tuning. Run out of time will finish in the next couple of days. Will let you know the results.
Thanks,
