Multipower problems

Hi I recently purchased a MF165 off an old friend. Everything worked o.k. except for the right hand brake. We agreed that I would buy the new parts and he would put them in. When he did this he found a seal was damaged allowing oil to contaminate the disc. He drained the diff/transmition, replased the seal, re-assembled the one side and then had to turn the tractor around to do the other side in his small garage. He didn't re-fill the diff/transmition before moving the tractor. Now the Multipower does not work or more that it is now just opperating in low. Would this be because of driving the tractor with no oil? maybe there is now an air lock? Is there a simple fix? Or am I up for a more serious repair? This is all new to me, I apreciate all the help I can get. Steady, Tasmania, Australia.

Steady;

When the oil wasn't put back to turn the tractor around it may have ruin some bushings and in the multipower overdrive pinion as well. You better have the whole hydraulic and transmisson systems gone through. It does take but a VERY little time without oil to spoil alot of parts in the transmission.

Thank you all for responding to my problem.

The old friend I bought the tractor off has not long gone and has fixed the multipower problem. After reading all the info we could get our hands on, it was decided we had nothing to loose by experimenting. I started by removing the cover where the PTO lever is and inspected the pump intake filters as best I could. With the internal manifold in the way I couldn't fully remove the filters but I could hold them against the hole to inspect them. They were not spotlessly clean but nothing that would stop oil from going through. We then took the hose off the cooler at the front of the tractor, conected an extension hose to it down to a drum and started the tractor. Only a small dribble of highly airated oil came out but there was also a spatter blowing out with it. We turned the tractor off and pushed the hose of a drum pump onto the pipe coming from the multipower pump and pumped about 20 strokes of oil back through the multipower pump. We again started the tractor, this time we had what I guess to be about 25% of the correct flow coming out (it was still a little airated). We conected the hose back onto the cooler, checked and re-filled the gearbox and went for a drive in low multipower, believing there are less restrictions with the oil dumping straight back into the gearbox and not having to pressurise a clutch pack (we might not be right). We again disconected the hose from the cooler and fired up the engine, this time oil shot out very very quickly in a clean flow without any airation. We put it all back together, then went for a drive and everything works fine.
I can feel the hi-lo change, there is engine braking in high and it will hold from rolling backwards on a steep hill in high when the clutch is pushed down the first stage. Maybe there was some damage done to the pump and down the track it will show up, but just for the moment I've got a grin from ear to ear. Thanks again for your replies and I look forward to what people think of my experience.

Steady.

Cossie I'm not up with multipower trouble shooting, I think I just struck it lucky.
The people who answered my problems should be able to help. Good luck.
