I have a MF150 with a continental gas engine. I bush hogged with it for about 2 hrs and cut it off to let it cool. I came back that evening to put it away for the night. It started right up and I was headed for the barn when I noticed a large stream of oil pouring from around the oil filter (canister type, new o-ring). I tightened it and even replaced the filter and o-ring. Nothing has worked. I read somewhere that there is a bypass valve that may be blocked, but the forum search has been down for over a week and I'm getting desparate. Anybody had this before care to shed some light on my situation? Thanks in advance.

WillE,

I'm having the same exact problem with my 65 gasser. I really do not think its a matter of the gasket working its way out from under the canister, I believe that the exit port is somehow being blocked by the filter or gasket causing it to build up high pressure inside the canister. If I completely remove the filter and install the empty canister with the same gasket, it would run all day without a problem. Replace the filter, and she pops. I have tried this several times. I am to the point now where I am too paranoid to work the tractor for fear it will dump all of the oil before I notice.

Dean, Did you finally locate numbers for a spin on conversion for the gas model? I know they make one for the diesel, but the only thing I have found for the gasser is the remote mount kit that you and I discussed last year. I've tried and tried to find an adapter with no luck.

I sent the remote kit back to the dealer that you told me about, as I did not want to modify my engine that much. Matt

A little secret I learned years ago was to stretch the gasket till it fit tight against the sides of the recess area where the filter canister fit if the gasket fits to loose the oil pressure will force the gasket inside the canister causing it to leak. I also have a list of parts you can get from a Massey dealer to change to a spin-on filter.

Would you happen to know what would be needed for that on our 165 Continental? being a machinist I've considered making something myself, but it just isn't in my priority list. Donovan from Wisconsin

So you think it's just a poor fit on the gasket? I had it working great for several hours. The gasket appears to be tight. In fact, I have to be real careful to keep it from jumping "up" when I start to put on the filter. Anyway, the spin on filter sounds pretty good. What filter would it use then?

Yes, Will I do think that is your problem I dealt with that problem the whole time I worked on those tractor some times they will run for 20 to 30 hours before the gasket works it's way out from under the canister & the next time you wont even get it out the door. I never had one to leak that I stretched the gasket to fit tight in the canister recess.

Thanks, I'll try stretching it.
