I have a 1950 TO30 that I use mainly for plowing, discing, & bush hogging. The problem I have when lifting the implements going up a hill is that the front end comes off the ground. Is there such a thing as weights for the front of this tractor, or does someone have a design to make such weights? Thanks, Gary Helmstetter, New Windsor, Maryland

We had a Ferguson 30 new in I think 1952. It had weights inside the front wheels that were two pieces so you could take them off without removing the wheels. Dad left them in the wheels all the time.

I wouldn't suggest front end weights, but rather wheel weights. Front weights stick out in front of the tractor and tend to snag on stuff when you're turning.

If you go to the "parts" section of ytmag.com, they list a weight bracket for Fergusons. But they don't show a picture of it.

I have a set that bolts on the front wheels. They have 4 holes in them that match up with the 4 holes in the front rims.

I built the box that attaches to the front axle bolts. Put solid concrete blocks in it when I need to lift something heavy.

Was at a wrecking yard the other day and they had front wheel weights with 4 holes like you mentioned.

Sat around the shop for six months and finally one day I mounted them. Jumped on the tractor and drove around for about 2 minutes. Back to the shop, out with the impact wrench, off they came. Made steering very awkward.

Now when I need front weight I put them in the box, not on the wheel. Besides that it only takes a second to mount/dismount.

Different opinions.

Mark

Guess I'll have to add you to the list of folks who don't agree with me. My Wife is the first one on that list. (-:

I don't recall that the steering felt funny when I had mine on. But it's been quite a while - I don't need them much.

Seems to me that concrete blocks would bounce arount a lot. Do you have any trouble with that?

Not at all, and when you put the weight on the tractor, the front axle pivot pin is loaded normally. When you put the weight on the wheel the tractor wants to lift, the wheels want to stay on the ground and the pivot pin sits there and knocks at you sayint "when are you going to change me so I'll quit clattering". Geez I never heard you before! What gives?
