Are there any Continental engine experts out there?

I know the Continental flathead 6 cylinder was a popular engine for a variety of applications. Massey, Cockshut, Warner Swassey, Hyster, and such. Old Willys Jeeps were also Continental engines. Continental actually made the overhead valve engines for Massey.

Does anyone know if Continental ever made an overhead valve 6 cylinder with the same bolt pattern as the old flathead?

Does the Continental 309 c.i. have the same bolt pattern?

I am looking for something with a little more power and heat tolerance. for an older backhoe.

Not a claim, as expert on Continentals, but the
OHV 260 was designed by Continental, for MH, but
MH actually did build this engine into 1955. Then
Continental continued to offer it, as a power unit. The MH version had no camshaft bearing inserts;the oil pump was under the front main bearing. Continental used cam bearing inserts, and placed the oil pump on the bottom of the crank case pan. In the 60's,both New Holland and
Fox marketed 2 row forage harvesters, with
Continental engines. These units were well over
the 40 HP range of the 226, but similar block.
Researching these machines, may lead to your drop-in, repower solution.
