hi all,
well i really goofed this time. after doing some work on the tractor (rebuilt generator and voltage regulator and charged the battery) i didn't put back the battery tie down bolts and the weatherseal around the hood was gone. i think the battery "arced" out when using the tractor. the negative terminal literally blew apart. i have to put on a new negative clamp. but before i do that, in your all's opinion, what damage do you think i did? what should i look for? aside from the ground looking like it has almost melted, it looks okay. any help would be appreciated!!! thanks ken

If the battery blew up because of a short to ground from rain, likely nothing electrically was damaged, but you have to spray the whole area with baking soda, or some other mild alkaline solution (keeps the safety equipment to minimum) into anywhere that got sprayed with battery acid, or else there will be some sever rust in a very short period of time.

You will know when you spray an area that was exposed to acid as it will foam. Rinse the area periodically and spray more baking soda until all fizz is gone.

"Beware"!!!!! mixing alkaline (baking soda)with acid the "fizz" is mustard gas being produced so you might end up knock-out or worse

Well, if you didn't see (or smell) any melted wires in the harness, you're probably ok. Just fire her up and see what happens. Maybe dinged your new regulator a bit.
