I recently finished rebuilding a Continental L-226. In order to get the timing between the crankshaft and camshaft correct, I had to retard the camshaft four teeth from the dots that were on the cam and crank. Is this a common problem? Was there a manual that addressed this discrepancy? Thanks,
Steve

I rebuilt a 124 continental a few years ago that didn't have the timing marked correctly on the cam gear.

I didn't notice any discrepancy when I rebuilt my 226. I bought a manual. When I got the tractor, it wouldn't run, because the previous owner had the oil pump installed one gear tooth off, 9 teeth on the oil pump gear. Being off one tooth caused a 40 degree timing error.
