Is there a listing somewhere of matched equipment/implements for a Ferguson 40? I'm guessing that the 2 tractor lines may have had a separate implement line for each? Maybe not and I can look at a MF 50 or MH 50.

Is your baler a side mount, or a pull type?

The side mounted ones are rare. I've heard there are only 10 or so in North America.

Don't have any idea about pull types.

I have seen the side mount but the model 12 is a conventional pull type, only made in very small numbers.

At the time the Ferguson F-40 tractor was built, M-H-F had a policy that all trailing implements would be painted red while all three-point implements would be painted gray, regardless of whether it was sold by a M-H dealer or a Ferguson dealer. Implements designed specifically for the M-H 50 and the F-40 were the same. In 1958 the M-H and the Ferguson lines were merged and everything after that was MF. Implements were all red after that, I believe.
