I bought this tractor from original owner. The serial number reads 44B1RF57### it as 44 butane, regular altitude, row crop, foot clutch,it came from factory on propane. It has a 3 point hitch, high arch or high crop front end ( tire sticks half way out in front of tractors grill, was told it might be a cane tractor because of the 18" front tires?) has 2 remote hydraulic lines, power steering, cast front hubs and rear cast hubs,260 ci engine, clam shell or crown fenders. From what I can figure out from reading the MH data book it is a 44 Special? How can you tell if you have a live PTO? Whats the difference in the Cane tractors. It sits up higher than a Standard tractor. Does the Propane tractor have a higher compression pistons? How rare could this tractor be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Craig

If you bought from 'original owner', why not ask the guy you gave your money to, what some history
was on his 49 year experience? Didn't you discuss
the tractor, features,(Live PTO?), at all??? So we have to spoon feed you, next week you post it
on eBay? Here we go: 1955 44 Special LPG,Row Crop, High-Arch,38" rears, cane front axle would have secondary diagonal braces to the spindle housings, cane fenders-a little more cupped, double back bracing,Live PTO would have right side hand clutch between brake pedals & fender.
Higher compression, sterlite valves,Hitch-All,
WFE sits no farther than any 44, 18" wheels may
be cane, or off a 55 parter(retro).PS must be
after market, no factory PS on Specials, unless
parted from a 444. Why not simply post a photo in the Y.T. column, to the left? No live clutch
means no double disc brakes.

Thanks Velvet Tide for the info? You were a bit harsh there not knowing all the facts! The old man that I bought the tractor from was coughing and hacking soo bad I thought he was going to cough his guts out, also we got eleven inches of rain that day, it was 60 degrees and we had a tornado touch down not far from we were at. I didn't want to get to close to this man not knowing if it was contagious. I went back up there today (saturday 16th) and picked up the tractor and was able to talk to the man more in depth. The decals on hood say 44 LP Special. It doesn't have the lever on right between brakes and fender, also the fenders are cupped more than the regular clam shell fenders. It doesn't have the extra brace like the Cane's do, and front wheels are 16 inches. The man says that the power steering was on the tractor when he bought it new. Where did you get the serial numbers for this tractor from, all the manuals, books and everything I got doesn't say anything about the LP version 44 other than it has a 260 engine. The MH data book only says G & D serial numbers no LP? I am looking for more info about this tractor and LP serial numbers. How many LP's were made?Any help or input is greatly appreciated, Thanks Craig Ps, send info to my e-mail address, OK.
