Hello All!

I'm looking to replace my steering wheel and those worn out u-joints on my MH 30 steering shaft. What's worked for you in removing those pins from the steering wheel and u-joints?

Thanks!

Randy

The pins(part no. 11942X) need to come one way
only. They are grooved and tapered on one end.
Usually the end recessed slighty is the end you
need to drive on. Use a roll pin or flat end style punch as big or close to the hole size and
you should have no problem driving out.

air hammer w/small punch bit, penetrating oil, some patience worked for me. i then used a DULL,wide chisel bit to work the yokes off the shaft. my air hammer was the el-cheapo $25 kit but has saved me $100's in grief. good luck. fred

The u-joint pins I've removed this way: Get a small side grinder and take off one of the flanged ends from the pin and then simply drive it out of the hub with a proper sized punch. The pin is a solid pin with a slot cut into it's length to allow it to shrink a bit when installing for a tight fit. I think the steering wheel pin is the same type of pin. I have used regular split pins (the more modern type) as well as a snug fit bolt when replacing them. I think you could reuse the originals if you could get them to stay in by peening the end of the pin.

Thanks, Alberta Mike! I've been doing what you suggested and it works pretty well. I've had to drill a little, then bang the pins out. I've got three of four out....that fourth is, shall we say, reluctant.
