I have been restoring my grandfathers 1957 Massey Harris 555 for about a year now. It's going slow. I hope to paint this summer and would like to complete it with the missing hood/grille chrome. please call 615-419-6101.

I have often seen the hood and grille chrome on ebay over the years so maybe try a search there. If I'm not mistaken, I think the badge part is the same for any of the triple-numbered Masseys (333, 444 or 555) but I'm not 100% sure about that. Velvet Ride would know for sure.

'Evening, Mr. B., Thanks for the confidence. Held
back on that 'rare 444 post', thought Monte might
make a sale. Scott, you are chasing a high theft
item. With a scant 3000+ Triple 5's, cosmetic
parts are few. The nose ornament in cracked,
pitted chrome, can run 75-100 dollars, interchange. The center chrome, only 555, since 8
rib grill(longer), 333/444's were 7 rib grills.
You can fabricate one from fiberglass, imbed auto body fasteners in the layers, cut, sand, file,
to proper shape, once you have the nose chrome,
as a start point. Your fiberglass strip gets covered with 2" chrome tape(pricey). The ends need detailing, cuts, cement. It works, if you do
it.

Thanks for the info on locating and making the hood chrome. I would cast one if I could borrow one to duplicate. I would try to make from aluminum and polish it.

Did you ever come up with the piece of chrome on the front of a massey harris 333. Did you try and make one?

Scott TN: The thought of casting repo medalions and even chrome strips has got me very curious. Can you do this with any precision? I suppose they could even be molded from plastic. There is some very good chrome paint on the market. I have the original pieces. E-mail me

'38, Buz? You need the shaft worm gear, or sector
gear? Trying to recall the change in design, let alone interchange. If replacing bearings, bushings, is not adequate, a machine shop may be
your option, to'dress' the gear. Should you hit
a dead end, post an e mail addy, there are parts
in certain circles, but pricey.
