Thanks in advance for all opinions on a choice between two tractors - I'm new to tractors and need all the help I can get! I'm buying a 150
year old home in the country. It comes with 7 1/2 acres of grass, most of it a hill with gentle
slopes. Several large trees are spaced on it, none very close together. With the house I can buy a Ferguson FE-35, serial # 357147, made
in England in 1964. It has about 2800 hours, a
4 foot bushhog, a Perkins 3 cylinder diesel, and
seems to be in good running order. Its price is
$5000. I've also located in the area a Massey
Ferguson Model 165, serial # 37147970. I've
been told it is a 1975 (can anybody tell for sure from the serial #?) It was used by the state highway department, and has about 2900 hours.
It's a 4 cylinder diesel, has power steering, and
a roll cage (is that factory standard or add-on?)
It comes with a 5 foot bushhog and costs $6400.
It also seems to be in good running order.
My main question: which tractor is the
better choice for those 7 1/2 acres, all things
considered? I'll really appreciate your opinions.

Hello!
I think that you shell buy MF 35 because it is a very good tractor. It is fun to drive and it doesnt cost much fuel to drive "him". On over farm we have TEF 20, MF35, MF65, MF165, MF175 and MF 6270. MF165 is a very good traktor to, but I think MF35 is better.
Good luck Mikael Larson Sweden

MF 165 is a more robust (heavier built) go-get-em tractor. Will take more abuse, have good reputation for longevity.

Rollover typically wasn't standard but is a real good addition if you have any slopes at all..(or even on flat ground for that matter).

(won't take long till you find out why.. things can get excitin' in a hurry)

The 35 3 cyl diesel is also made by perkins, this engine was also used in the 135 with a couple of changes.
The 165 should have the perkin 4203 ( 4 cylinders 203 cubic inches) this is a good reliable engine that is easy to fix (so is the 35 engine).
