I'm pulling my dads Pony out of the shed next week after 18 years. The tractor ran perfect when it was parked. Is there a certain procedure to follow so that I won't damage the engine?

Keith,
Two other items. You have to let us know how it turns out, and make sure you don't put a 12 volt battery on it if it's still the original 6 volt, positive ground.

I'd do exactly what Dave said, except I'd put an ounce or so of oil in each cylinder, let it sit an hour, then turn it over (with the plugs out of course).

If it isn't stuck, I'd change the oil and filter first, pull the plugs, may as well change them too, turn the engine over if isn't stuck without the plugs to get the oil circulated throughout the engine, slap the plugs back in and give it a shot. You may also have to clean the gas tank before refueling with fresh gas.... I'd give the carb a cleaning too.
