I found a MF35 60 model he guesses. The tractor is no longer running. It will turn over but won't run now. Fuel filter has been changed I can get it for a pretty good price. I don't know jack about tractors but the price is at $1700 right now with new tires and metal and a good life when running with a live PTO. What do you guys think?

Oh well I do this all the time Bite of more than I can chew or get into something that cost way more than its worth. But I like all the projects. What typically goes wrong with these units? Is there anyway to test the tranny without it running? He's down to $1550 now

You'll have to bleed the fuel system after changing filters. Any air in the system will cause this problem. Go step by step as the operators manual says and it will most likely run.
The engine is a 3 cyl Perkins diesel, and it will give you years of good service if it is OK. Spares are easy to find and not very expensive.

HMM. I would see if he will let you try and get it running before you buy it.

Dont want to buy it and then find it needs a complete engine rebuild - Then it does come very expensive.

Or atleast find out under what circumstances it died. - would it just not start one day? did it stop at high RPM? Did it stop at low RPM? Try towing it around. If it goes then after towing it 4 a little while, it may have almost blown valves, or the valves may just be too tight.

That is what i would do and ask.
